(MHI) has completed construction of YAMATAI, a module carrier with the designed module carrying capacity of 3,000 tons x 2 units, for NYK-Hinode Line, Ltd. This is the first of two sister vessels built at the Nagasaki Shipyard &amp; Machinery Works. The YAMATAI is the world’s first vessel equipped with the Air Lubrication System (ALS) using an air blower. The air delivered to the bottom of the vessel by the blower reduces the frictional resistance of the hull surface against sea water, thus achieving about 10% energy saving including the energy required by the blower. In addition to the ALS, the module carrier adopts the optimum propeller design and the Mitsubishi-Reaction fin achieves high propulsive performance with less vibration. The module carrier has a flush deck module area of 120m x 36m on the upper deck, which enables roll on/roll off module loading by self-moving dolly.<br />

The product carrier incorporates the latest technology and rich experience of Imabari to satisfy reliability and<br />
performance requirements of the shipowner and operator. The INCA is the flush deck type vessel with the engine room and accommodation deck house including navigation space are located aft. Hull construction uses the double side shell and double bottom type with a cargo and slop tank arrangement that consists of 16 tanks. These tanks are separated by the centerline longitudinal bulkhead. Considering cargo handling, the cargo part hull members of all transverse beams are arranged on the upper deck side. Four longitudinals are<br />
arranged along double side shell, maintenance work is also facililtated. Hull outfittings Deck machinery is all operated electro-hydraulically. Eight winches are installed for mooring and anchor hoisting. The safety passages are provided from the bridge to the bow in accordance with the SOLAS II-1/3-3 regulation. The winching space provided for a helicopter is connected with the safety passage. Cargo handling equipment Three main cargo oil piping systems are provided which allows simultaneous handling of three different type cargo oils. Double shut valve systems are used for each main cargo oil pipe to prevent from contamination. The cargo pumping system provided with PRIMA-VAC System. Therefore, the stripping of bottom oil can be instantaneously start immediately after oil unloading. The vapor emission control system is provided to satisfy the USCG rules (46CRF, Chapter I-Part 39).<br />
The vessel is provided with the fixed type gas detector for BWT and cofferdam for monitoring in the cargo control room. In the cargo oil pump room, the fixed type flammable gas detector and O2 densimeter are provided and monitoring can be achieved in the same way.<br />
Pure epoxy resin coating is applied to the inner wall of cargo oil tanks, which has superior characteristics against the various oil products. Tar epoxy resin coating is also applied to edge treatment of the material for<br />
ballast tanks and the protective measures against corrosion with strip coating. The backup anode with 6-year life is also installed. Machinery part The 2-cycle main diesel engine and diesel generator comply with IMO NOx regulations to cope with air pollution prevention. Engine automation and design are based on the LRS UMS. For the diesel generator, fuel viscosity control and valve switching can be achieved at the control room.<br />

(MHI) has completed construction of the MOL Efficiency (HN: 1246), a large container carrier capable of carrying 4,646TEUs, for delivery to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) at its Kobe Shipyard &amp; Engine Works. The MOL Efficiency is the first of four carriers ordered by MOL. The carrier is the Panamax type, and can load 2,074TEUs in container holds and 2,572TEUs (in maximum seven tiers) on the upper deck. The main feature is adoption of a new hull arrangement for the fuel tanks. In the conventional container carrier, fuel oil is stored in tanks between outer shell and cargo holds. The new arrangement uses the bulkhead spaces for the fuel storage. Over 50% of the total storage capacity is shifted to the new location. Thus, risks of oil spills in emergencies such as collision and grounding can considerably be reduced, ensuring environmentally friendly ship operation. In addition, the new cylinder oil saving system based MHI completes container carrier, MOL Efficiency on the Swirl Injection Principle (SIP) is adopted for the main engine, which provide better utilization and considerable reduction in consumption of cylinder oil.<br />

Adoption of the electric-control lubrication system for the engine cylinders contributes to cost reduction in ship operation. The ballast tanks of top and bottom side are separated to facilitate ballasting and deballasting work. The exchange of ballast water is possible during navigation for marine environment protection. The diesel engines for electric power generation also meet the IMO environmental standards for exhaust gas.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co., Ltd. (SKD) completed the 25,000DWT chemical tanker, GINGA PANTHER (HN: 5428), for Achilles Line Shipping S.A. at Hiroshima Dockyard on June 7, 2007. The chemical tanker has 28 cargo tanks including small and large ones, based on the latest design for this type. Cargo tank material is SUS316LN as measures for anti-corrosion and quality assurance of cargoes. The cargo handling system consists of one submerged pump and one cargo line per cargo tank. This allows transporting a variety of chemical and petroleum products. Corrugated bulkheads are used for cargo tanks, which eliminate the projected members that may be obstacles to cleaning tanks.<br />
For increased propulsion efficiency, bulbous bow, A.S. Fin (asymmetric fin), and turbo-ring are installed. The A.S. Fin is attached to the stern below water line, and the turbo-ring is located after the propeller. A bow<br />
thruster is mounted for swift berthing and unberthing work. A large-capacity dinitrogen generator is installed<br />
in the engine room considering safety of transport and cargo handling efficiency. The vessel has obtained Class NK ‘M0’ notification. Main engine remote control at the bridge and main engine and machinery remote control in the engine room can be achieved. Centralized control of the engine and machinery is also available.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has delivered RHOURD EL ADRA, a 22,500cbm semi-refrigerated type LPG carrier to the owner, Hyproc Shipping Company, at its Imari Shipyard &amp; Works on Aug. 31, 2007. This is the first of two sister vessels for the owner. Experience gained from the operation by NAFTOMAR of previously built two vessels has been reflected in the new design. The normal operational area is mainly planned for Europe and the Mediterranean for this type of the vessel, and the hull of the vessel is optimized to have large loading capacity with relatively small gross tonnage, considering the high frequency of portcalls<br />
for the vessel.<br />
Weir LGE Process, an engineering company, in Scotland provided technical cooperation and took charge of the cargo handling part in the partnership with Namura. The cargo can be carried in the semi-refrigerated, semi-pressurized, or full-refrigerated condition, and the gas plant is capable of containing and handling cargoes such as LPG, Anhydrous Ammonia, Butadiene, VCM, etc. Main features are as follows. All crew have a private cabin with toilet and bath. The No. 2 tank is the biggest single bi-lobe tank in the world. The bow thruster is used to facilitate berthing and maneuvering at respective ports. The engine room arrangement<br />
has been improved to secure maintenance space at various auxiliary machines. As the latest measures<br />
against pirates, the vessel is fitted with a CCTV system equipped with surveillance cameras. Spare parts<br />
management system (AMOS) which manages the supply of spare parts from the shore is fitted.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>IHI Marine United Inc. delivered the 8,450TEU container ship, MAERSK SINGAPORE, for Maersk Line through Reederei Blue Star GmbH at its Kure Shipyard. The MAERSK SINGAPORE is the last ship of a series of eight to deploy under its Europe/Asia service. The MAERSK SINGAPORE is a new generation of post-Panamax size container ships and has features such as larger capacity and good stability, installation of common rail electronically-controlled DU-Sulzer 12RT-flex 96C high power engine, superior hull form for efficient speed and good fuel consumption, about 700 reefer container receptacles, lashing bridges to simply secure on-deck containers and integrated bridge system with oneman operation design.<br />
In order to realize the good propulsion performance, economical operation, and good maneuverability of the ship, IHIMU designed the ship with its technical and engineering expertise, CFD analysis, 3D-FEM ship model analysis, walk-through simulation, and apparatus installation simulation utilizing CIM system, “Ajisai,” which IHIMU originally developed.<br />
